Back in August, English folk rock band Mumford & Sons released a music video for their new single, “Hopeless Wanderer.”
The video went viral, but not because the song is any good (the song’s okay… it sounds just like Mumford & Sons).
The video went viral because it stars Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Will Forte, and Ed Helms as the band members, highlighting all of the folksy, hipster stereotypes that have woven around the band since their rise to fame.
But, this video by Islands — a “Behind the Music” style mockumentary about the creation of Ski Mask, starring a slew of comedic up-and-comers, including Michael Cera and Alia Shawkat — makes all the same moves, only with interesting characters and an engaging story… more thoroughly entertaining.
I’m excited to see where this trend continues to take us.
